A visit to R The Spa at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated says Arati Thapa.

"I have been working here since the last 16 years maa'm", says the affable and well turned out therapist who is escorting me to the beauty salon for the 90 minute Caviar and Pearl age defying mask facial experience. It's a sentence I seldom hear and is entirely refreshing. I am at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi hotel to review their well known spa named simply as R The Spa. As I walk in I hear myself saying, an employee who has spent that many years in an organisation has to be deeply satisfied with the working conditions, in this day and age to remain with one single employer.

Inside the treatment room I am gently asked to change and lie down on the table. There's a soft swish of water running and soon her expert hands are rubbing my face with a cleansing lotion followed by the usual routine of toning, well timed strokes of massage and the Caviar and Pearl mask which will be peeled off leaving my skin luxurious with improved elasticity, oxygenated, cell renewal and suppleness.

"It's a good alternative to botox," she tells me. I don’t realise that I have fallen into a deep slumber until she wakes me gently with these words almost whispering the time and ushering me into the spa to hand me to the next therapist. It's time for the next experience-the Synergy massage, the spa's signature treatment and extremely popular with the guests. I am taken to the ground level where a large beautiful lotus is aptly the centre piece to the entrance of the spa that is the abode of cleanliness and purity. The lotus is the symbol of purity as well as fortune in Buddhism. In Hinduism it has been associated with Lord Vishnu and has the elements of divinity.

The spa is spread over 20,000 sq. ft. in three levels. The levels are aptly named Rejuvenation Relaxation and Replenishment.

This 90 minute extremely invigorating treatment begins with a foot ritual that is a symbol of an ancient tradition. My feet are dipped into a wide silver bowl and warm water is poured over it. It is patted dry with a towel and I am once again made to lie down on a massage bed that is decorated with beautiful flowers.

The treatment is a combination of Aromatherapy and Balinese techniques that leaves you utterly refreshed and relaxed. With a soothing music playing in the background, henceforth I am lost to the soft touches, deft kneading and expert fingers of the sweet looking therapist from the North East who leaves no muscle or pressure point free of her touch. I feel every tension leave my body, my wary backache disappearing slowly and my tired calves come alive with the massage techniques. I feel the warm fragrant oil rolling down my back and once again I can't help but fall asleep here too.

"Would you like a cup of herbal tea maa'm?" these words wake me up again. I feel light as a feather, I feel relaxed, ready to face a barrage of appointments lined up for me by my office and oh yes I do want to have that herbal tea.
