Farzi dishes out a new menu
It was my first visit to Farzi cafe, Cyber Hub Gurgaon. Since its launch I hadn't been to any of the Farzi Cafe branches. All my plans to meet up with friends at the place suddenly got changed at the last minute. So when I was invited for a taste of the new menu I jumped at it. The first impression I got was the fact that it was packed to the brim. There was a family, a group of friends enjoying rounds of Sangria and the bar to the left as you enter was pulsating with young and old both.There were happy noises of laughter and waiters whizzing past you with trays balanced in their hands, one carried what looked like a white branch, I am sure there must be a name for it (I later knew the fruits placed on the branches decoratively were sorbets that had distinct Indian flavour)
I will come to the food, as that was what I was there for but what struck me was the fact that the owner Zorawar Kalra had hired an all girl band that was belting out an amazing contemporary mix of old and new Hindi songs as well as English classics. They were dressed normally in jeans, trousers and tops, the band was perfect, their choice of songs were perfect and they were not overdoing it. I knew I was going to like the place!
Much like the all-girls band, the food in the new menu was all about reintroduction of the Indian food to the world. They sound like the food you know and have had all your living life but looks different, prettier in its new avatar, more modern and avant garde yet satisfy your craving for home food. Plated, it looks lusty and beautifully displayed in its fusion form.
Right from the time we were seated with our name places distinctly displayed the food was served, one after the other in succession. I was seated next to Nisha Kher, a foodie herself who knew a lot about Bengali food and Atika Gupta who was married to one. Between the three of us there was endless chatter on food with intervals of selfies and constant clicking of the food for our instagram feed.
Farzi's new menu offers a variety of dishes to start with like the Rock Shrimps with Kasundi Cream, MurghShorba with pulled chicken khari, Malabar parantha quesadilla with Tempered Palak Paneer, smoked with tamaring Yogurt- Tandoori New Zealand Lamb Chops and more.
