Here’s an exciting piece of news for those who love the sea, have a thing for the yacht and gets their adrenalin pumping at the mere mention of race. The prestigious Giraglia Rolex Cup began on the 13th of June and will go till 21st June. The fleet from all corners of the world will gather in the chic harbor of Saint-Tropez before embarking on a 243-nautical mile race to Monte-Carlo.

With a history spanning a glorious 60 years this annual event has taken the shape of an annual international rendezvous and is more than simply a sailing event.  Spirited and fair-minded competition, genuine camaraderie among the participants and sublime locations unite to create a festival-like atmosphere. Sailors are drawn from all corners of the world and all segments of the sport to take part in what has become one of the “must-do” events of the yacht-racing year.

What makes this race unique this time? It is the first and the only time the Giraglia Rolex Cup will finish in the celebrated Yacht Club de Monaco. Founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier and presided over by HSH Prince Albert II since 1984, the Yacht Club de Monaco has its roots in the Société des Régates formed in 1888. It has over 1300 members from 60 nationalities, and is a driving force on the Mediterranean regatta scene, notably the Primo Cup for one-designs, the offshore Palermo-Montecarlo race, and recently the Winter Sportsboat Series.

The port of Monte-Carlo has been set this year to celebrate its stunning new clubhouse designed by renowned architect Lord Norman Foster.
